48 Hours in the Seven Valleys

DAY 1

What a thrill to start your day with a fabulous steam train adventure on the Zig Zag Railway. Head in to Lithgow and choose from our many cafes and restaurants for refreshments before visiting one of our interesting museums – the Small Arms Factory Museum, Eskbank House and the State Mine Heritage Park all beautifully showcase our early industrial heritage. Take a walk around Blast Furnace Park, part of Australia’s early iron and steel industry, and stroll down to Lake Pillans Wetlands Estate, a haven for birds and wildlife. You can’t miss Hassans Walls Lookout – the highest scenic lookout, looking over the Blue Mountains. The 270-degree view always impresses!

DAY 2

Exploring out of town, Hartley Historic Site has it all! Take a self-guided tour to explore early convict and early settler history at your own pace. Wander along the Rowsons River walk with itsthe purpose-built boardwalk beside the River Lett and see if you can spot the resident platypus ! Visit magical places like the Glow Worm Tunnel, Maiyingu Marragu, Evans Crown, or the impressive silo art at the historic Portland Foundations. Drive through Capertee Valley, the widest enclosed canyon in the world, and take in the magnificent Gardens of Stone. With seven National Parks to choose from, you may have to stay another night or two!
